Yesterday was a historic day for public lands and those that love them, but one thing we are really excited about is the passage of the Every Kid Outdoors Act. This act provides continued funding and bipartisan support of the very successful Every Kid in the Parks Program that gave millions of fourth graders free access, for them and their families, to national parks and federal lands.
Why are we so excited? One of our goals is to assist Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in their outreach efforts for local kids–not just fourth graders. We realize that providing outdoor learning experiences and adventures in national parks is important for the future of the kids, the parks, and the planet.
Local kids played a key role in the early days of Black Canyon, saving their own pennies to help fund a road to the rim, and we want to honor that heritage and make sure local kids benefit from having a national park in their backyard.
We celebrate the Every Kids Outdoors Act and look forward to getting more kids in our park.
